About Serge Rachmaninoff

The composer, conductor, pianist, Hollywood star and family man created a place full of magic in Lucerne. Expelled from his native Russia, the artist had lived in exile in various countries since 1917. The longing for his homeland created a sort of creator’s block him throughout his life. On the peninsula of Hertenstein near Weggis in the Kanton of Lucerne, he found his second home and was able to compose again for the first time after a long break. The place inspired him and gave him and his family security. He spent 7 years (1933-1939) in the Villa Senar and composed works that have left their mark on music history and represent his creative work.
